UEA: small town, wonderful people, good times! Past Review
By Rebecca R (American/United States Studies/Civilization., Goucher College) for
University of East Anglia: Norwich - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
YES! I think I might have been happier in a bigger town, or at least closer to a city where I could travel from but overall I wouldn't have changed it. Norwich is a lovely city and I wish that I had more opportunity to explore it.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |

* Host Country Program Administration

|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
|
* Food: |
There is no dinning hall, there are several on campus cafes and the city has some great restaurants. Did almost all of my grocery shopping at Morrision's, a really large grocery store with reasonable prices. You can take the 25 or 35 bus directly there and back, or a taxi only costs about 6 pounds, not bad if it gets split! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
If a student is spending less than six months in England they are unable to register for national health care. This means to see a doctor costs a lot of money and they will be likely to turn you away if it is not an emergency. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | I tended to spend around 100 US dollars a week, but that included food and going out. Drinks can be expensive depending on where you buy them as well as the movies. Transportation and travel also cost more. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Don't forget to budget for travel. Also, think about what your'e buying, especially when it comes to things like books, clothes, kicknacks, etc. Not only are you spending the money but you've also got to be able to bring it back with you. |
Language
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
