A restorative and valuable experience, both academically and socially! Past Review
By A student (Wellesley College) - abroad from 09/09/2018 to 12/21/2017 with
University of Edinburgh: Edinburgh - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
I learned how to relax and separate my social life from my academic life. By traveling on the weekends, I learned how to be more independent. It was 100% worthwhile!
Personal Information

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I wasn't really held accountable for my coursework, which I'm not used to. Because of this, I missed more class and skipped more readings than I would normally. Although I did fine in the end, I would have learned more if I was more disciplined! |
* Host Country Program Administration

* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
|
* Food: |
|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I felt like I met mostly other American students and other international students, both from my housing and my classes. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
You can easily register for a GP at the beginning of the semester, which makes it easier to go to a doctor if health problems arise later. |
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
Even though I mostly became friends with other American study-abroad students, those friendships were really strong and the result of a great semester. If I could do it all again, I would try harder to maintain friendships with Scottish students by joining more organizations, but I don't at all regret how I spent my time abroad. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 150 USD |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Eat meals at home! |
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | No |
Direct Enrollment/Exchange
* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? | Direct Enrollment |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I wish I had studied throughout the semester, because final exams in the UK often account for more than 90% of your final grade. This is very different from American course structure and was a hard adjustment which I should have prepared for from the beginning! |
