A good break from Wellesley Past Review
By A student (Wellesley College) - abroad from 09/08/2018 to 12/21/2018 with
University of Edinburgh: Edinburgh - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
I learned how to cook for myself and live in a flat with other people. I also learned how to live in a city and how to make friends at a larger institution. Also, Edinburgh is a beautiful city and I really loved being able to see Arthur's Seat and the castle so often.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The classes at the University of Edinburgh are large and you don't get much individual attention. However, they are well-taught and interesting. |

|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |

* Food: |
I really enjoyed being able to prepare my own food for a semester. I was also impressed with how cheap groceries were. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I met some British people but I had trouble finding social events I would enjoy and making friends. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I felt relatively safe in Edinburgh, but it's a good idea not to go out alone at night. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I enjoyed living in a flat and preparing my own food. Most of my classes were recorded, so I didn't have to worry very much about attendance. I was able to do the coursework at my own pace, which I appreciated. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $75 |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Most science courses are at a separate campus that is two miles south of the main campus. I had to travel there in the morning for my classes, and it was difficult because it was a long walk and the university shuttle bus can be quite crowded in the mornings. |

The Academic or LinguistYou went abroad with specific academic goals in mind; the program credentials and rigor of your coursework abroad were very important to you. You had a great time abroad, but never lost sight of your studies and (if applicable) were diligent with your foreign language study. Good for you! |
