University of Evansville: Grantham - Study abroad at Harlaxton College

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was very worthwhile, and I would go abroad again, but I would pick a different program that allowed me to experience more of the culture.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was great and you really get to know the information, but it is a lot to remember. For the amount of information you are exposed to is not the amount of information you retain.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The administration is alright, but the staff at Harlaxton are really the ones who help you and are the ones who seem to genuinely care. THEY are the ones you will find that you have long conversations with!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived outside the manor in the carriage house. I was an RA and my room was above the broilers, so I dealt with dead flies, ladybugs, and the heat as well as walking outside to get to class.

* Food:

It is not suitable for vegetarians, unless you really like eating the fungus quorn.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I participated in the meet-a-family program. BEST decision I made!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

The nurse is okay. The health care system there sucks.

* Safety:

Other than walking outside at night to my dorm, it was really safe! Security always had your back!

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 75
