University of Evansville: Grantham - Study abroad at Harlaxton College

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am now a global-citizen and aware of others in a way that I never had before, and that is so important in our society. I have a new appreciation for my life and I plan to do wonderful things with it.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

This is an astounding and life-changing program. Never have I ever been more subject to global issues, other walks of lives, and the ability to question my own character. There is something about Harlaxton that is magical and you feel it the moment you walk through those large grand ballroom doors. You travel, you make friends...you live on the safest edge possible. The courses are critical thinking challenges and they force you to rise to the occasion; the professors are you friends as they are pushing forward on this academic journey. I could speak forever about my time at Harlaxton, traveling all around Europe, and the experience of a lifetime.... But you should probably just go there to find out for yourself.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Spot on, amazing, and deserve all of the credit for my set-up for success.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

It's a castle, you can't argue with that!

* Food:

The refectory is amazing and knows how to make you feel at home while exposing you to all of these new things/food at the exact same time. These are the nicest people on that castle!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Grantham and Harlaxton welcome you with open arms and really make sure to expose you to their "side." Oh, I felt most welcome and cared for.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I didn't have any health issues while I was gone, but my friends who did were treated very well and the Harlaxton staff made sure to get them all of the care they needed.

* Safety:

I felt completely safe under the care of Harlaxton. I was always sure to have all of the phone numbers and emails I needed, the information to the international embassies, and all of the other things I needed while traveling. Make sure to ask them questions if you ever feel concerned and they will always make sure you okay and ready for the next adventure.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Harlaxton had a huge impact on my life and will forever be with me for which I am eternally grateful.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It's all about balance on the student's part.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $75-$100 if I was traveling.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Start saving the moment you think about going abroad because you will want to experience everything abroad...and you need money to do so. Split cost with friends/roommate wherever you can if you can, look for student discounts and free exhibits, and make a budget!
