Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Strong University, enjoyed all of my courses. They were small and discussion based. The grading was more like that of Master's level courses-just one final paper or exam. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Administration was helpful, but the bureaucracy was dizzying. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
My housing was very ugly and dirty-I lived in Stusie, the big student complex and would definitely NOT recommend it to anyone. It seemed to have safety issues at night, was loud, and pretty unsanitary. |
* Food: |
Fine, but very bland. Nothing exciting to mention. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Freiburg gives easy access to many other countries-RyanAir flies places for as cheap as 2 Euro! Take advantage of that. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Freiburg is relatively safe, but I would not recommend a girl to walk anywhere by herself at night. I got harassed several times. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Language
* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
|
Language acquisition improvement? |
Almost everyone spoke English, but were happy to speak German with me. |
Direct Enrollment/Exchange
* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? | Exchange |

A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Most likely students serious about learning German, taking good University courses, and those excited about travel. Self-motivated students are best suited for this program. |
