Study Abroad - Eye Opening Experience Past Review
By A student (Music Management, University of the Pacific) - abroad from 01/30/2012 to 06/01/2012 with
University of Liverpool: Liverpool - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
From studying abroad I gained a stronger sense of independence as well as much greater confidence to get out and talk to new people. It was definitely a worthwhile experience and gave me many skills and new opinions I don't think I ever would have learned from staying inside the USA.

* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Living in on-campus housing was great! The only downside to Uni accommodation was that there was no communal areas to meet other students living in our buildings. |
* Food: |
This rating isn't really applicable - the housing was self-catered so I was cooking for myself. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
The school didn't really help us integrate with local students! We only had social events with other international students and we lived with international students - it was very hard to find and make friends who weren't international students. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
It didn't really come up since I didn't have health issues. |
* Safety: |
I never once felt uncomfortable in Liverpool - it's a great student city! |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
It would have been easier if I had a visa that allowed me to work during the time I was there. Seeing my money draining from my account and having no means to replenish it was the most frustrating part. |
* Was housing included in your program cost? | No |
* Was food included in your program cost? | No |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I wish I knew that I didn't need to apply for a visa, being an American citizen entering into the UK - all I needed was to obtain a student visitor visa stamp at the border upon entrance. Instead I wasted a lot of time and money on the visa application process that was unnecessary as I was given a lot of misleading or incomplete information about visa requirements. |
