University of Manchester: Manchester - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I think it was worthwhile, I met so many people and had so many new experiences I wouldn't have had at my home college.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Not many assignments, most of them landed near the end of the semester. But it is important to really know your lectures.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Decently ok. Never got any notifications of billing until it was overdue, and hard to contact anyone if the issue was pressing.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in Park View, and it was quite a nice room, decently close to campus, but a little loud. A couple of minor issues in the flat, but overall nice.

* Food:

Cooked for myself; never went to catering. The food in Manchester is quite good, a good variety if you're not scared to travel around.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Very diverse, felt at home almost instantly.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I've been pretty safe, but there have been incidents here and there that I've heard of, so I'd advise being cautious just in case.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

As much as I love this exchange, I think I would've preferred an experience that travelled more. Because this is an exchange, I felt like a regular uni student, which, while nice, can be hard if you don't have the money or the time to constantly travel.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

If you go out often, it tends to get expensive quite fast but if you're here more for just the studies and stay in, it'll be way less expensive.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Exchange

* What could be improved?
  • I wasn't a fan of the teaching style but it's not their fault.
