What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I had a great time. The Global Semester Staff goes over and beyond for the students that travel using their program. During my stay here, they made sure I felt safe and secure. Also, they gave me many opportunities to have a social life, and always encouraged getting involved with the local life here. I couldn't ask for more when it comes to the Global Semesters company. The education, however, is severely lacking. Many of my friends that are involved with the Global Semesters program often expressed their confusion for the low-standards that the teachers require of these students. Where it was a relief to have so much work, which allows for more travel, many of my friends are worried that they did not learn enough to take home to their host institutions. As for me, I had trouble acclimating to the kind of work that was in my classes. I didn't take any Global Semester courses, and my last month here was filled with classwork. I'm fine with doing work, but I spent at least 8 hours a day on schoolwork, everyday, for at least 4 weeks. Because of this, I missed many opportunities to spend time with my friends here because of the amount of work that was to be done. Also, most of the work I did felt extremely redundant, and made me question the merit of the professors that were in charge of my studies. There is no question of their knowledge of the subject at hand, but more of how to teach the subject that I had a problem with. ther than that, everything was absolutely wonderful
