What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about the world and myself. It was definitely worthwhile.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Classes were not challenging and professors did not communicate well with students.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I hate visa issues while traveling to Cyprus which initially cost me around seven hundred dollars to resolve. On site administrators were unhelpful in every way despite numerous visits to their offices asking for assistance.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Our apartment was small and very cramped with four people living in it. It was dirty and the air conditioning/heat did not work well. We were provided with minimal furniture .

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I had no experiences with healthcare

* Safety:

Nicosia is very safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Travel was difficult and it's hard to get around Nicosia at night, which makes night life difficult to experience. Sometimes Nicosia seemed boring and being in the small apartment with three other people was stifling.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Food is not incredibly expensive if you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Traveling is more expensive because you must take planes to and from the island.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $125
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? nope.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The people here with me
  • the beaches
* What could be improved?
  • HOUSING
  • improve class difficulty
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I would have done a program that houses american students with more international students, not just other American students. It would have provided the opportunity to diversify more instead of being immersed in American culture while in another country.
