I learned that we are a small part of a big world and I will never be able to experience this again.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes are definitely easier due to the fact that we already speak English and the class is made simpler for those who have English as their second language.

* Host Country Program Administration

Laura and Sakis were always very quick with responses and were extremely helpful and considerate.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The location was great but the WiFi was weak and the refrigerator is not big enough for four people. The rooms were fine but they were dirty when we arrived. Cupboard space was good and we could have used another cooking pan.

* Food:

Carrefour has great prices on most items and the restaurants nearby are just as savvy. There are no complaints about food other than there is no place to find hot wings.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Some students were very welcoming and extraverted but I guess it's like any other culture where most locals avoid foreigners and are more reserved.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

It's impossible to find regular cough medicine or even headache medicine here in Cyprus and I feel that the students should bring it just in case when they come over.

* Safety:

Cyprus was by far the safest country I have been to. I have never once felt unsecure and my only issue was that some of the locals drive a little crazy.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

I would have done more research into other European countries because traveling would have been cut in half due to location.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I traveled a lot so food here was so cheap that you could eat for 20$ for the entirety of the week if you ate in which is what I did due to my travels.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 200-300 due to traveling
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? If you want to travel abroad save now because even if you saved from freshman year of high school you still will not have enough to do everything you want.

  • Which classes are offered during the coming semester.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? How to travel efficiently from the airports. Buses and trains are very inexpensive and I wish I'd known. Also that you cannot get medicine like in the states. Prescription is needed for everything.

The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
