University of Nicosia - Global Semesters: Nicosia - Semester in Cyprus

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It showed me that there are so many different cultures in this world and it is definitely worthwhile to experience as many as you can.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

All of my classes were just midterm and final exam. No homework so it made it tougher to master the material. The teachers were available if you ever needed extra help though.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The Global Semesters staff is very friendly and helpful.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Some apartments are nicer than others and some have washers. A common complaint was that if we all have to pay the same amount, then we should all get the same quality of housing. Maro apartments were nice though.

* Food:

Local food was easily accessible.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

#Cultured

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Pharmacies are on every corner. I never had any issues but others who did said that it was easy to get help from a doctor.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Cyprus was a very cool island. It is also part of the EU which made it easier to travel everywhere.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I spent a lot of money each week but that is because I traveled every weekend. If you are trying to save money then it is possible. Some of the local foods are cheap.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? €200+
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Don't go to the grocery store 3x a day. Get with a group of people and have someone make a different meal each night.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
