The Adventure of a Lifetime Past Review

University of Northern Iowa: Capstone in Southern Italy

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
There is so much more than small-town Iowa. The only time I'd been out of the country was for an afternoon picnic in Canada when I was 9. The world has so much history and cultures and experiences to offer that it's a sin to not take advantage of it all!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

If I could give it more stars, I would! I loved trying new things and finding new favorite foods!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I totally felt like a tourist, but I didn't care! Everything was simply mindblowing and breathtaking, so I didn't care that I looked like a stereotypical American tourist!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

We didn't have any health issues, so five stars!

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

We utilized the grocery store a lot, enabling us to make sandwiches and drink tap water when we could. Food was a big expense, but not as much as I was anticipating.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Maybe $75?
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Eat the delicacies, but it's more than acceptable to make pb&j sandwiches to save money. In return, you can use that money for souvenirs or taking a weekend trip somewhere!
