About

Rio de Janeiro is the setting for the Capstone 3125 - Globalization, Cultural Pluralism and International Security course. As part of the program participants will experience some of the unique elements of Brazilian culture, including Samba music and dancing and the Brazilian passion for soccer. There will also be time to experience the relaxed attitude and laid back culture in Brazil. Students will explore part of the Atlantic rainforest in Tijuca National Park, with its beauty and grandeur where they will likely see tropical birds, insects and monkeys. They will also see gross inequality in Rio de Janeiro and work with children from the poor communities. As the program leads students through these experiences, they will be challenged to think about the positive and negative interactions between globalization, culture and security.
