University of Otago, New Zealand: Study Abroad Programme

yes would have liked to go to a different city in New Zealand though

Personal Information

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

N/A

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

the weakness was that I felt lost, but it may be because I arrived so early, but I still feel that there should be something there for me to do, I had to wait a long time before hearing from anyone

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

lived with 4 Americans and 1 kiwi, which was our kiwi host, she wasn't so pleasant and liked to speak her mind without thinking of others, always said things were too expensive and that we complained too much about prices, and she would make fun of our accent

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I didn't feel safe because I lived on a party street, there were many drunk students strolling the streets and when I did want campus watch help, they couldn't even come pick us up. The healthcare center is confusing, it says on their website you can e-mail them, I did and never got a reply.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? not sure, maybe over $50 NZD
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? spend later in the trip when you're about to go home, just in case you have any healthcare problems that need more money for or for tuition
