University of Seville / Universidad de Sevilla: Seville - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
YES! Sevilla is one of the most magical places I've ever been to or could imagine. I found it to be incredibly inspirational and evocative simply in the lay-out of its windy streets, the songs wafting on the wind, the clop of horsedrawn carriages... the details are endless, there is so much to Notice. I came away with some incredibly close friendships, wonderful photos and memories, and a deeper poetic sensibility. You can't help but be enchanted by this city and all it has to offer!

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The university is beautiful and has a lot to offer. I did find the classes to be a bit easy in that they were all lectures with a final exam at the end, no essays or necessity to participate in class at all.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I found an apartment right above the cobblestone streets in the most central area of Seville, a 5 min walk from the University, and 2 min from the Cathedral. It was a magical location right above a cafe bar and an idyllic living situation. (Santa Maria La Blanca, Barrio Santa Cruz)

* Food:

I felt there was good variety and healthy choices. There was also a grocery store really nearby.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I felt incredibly safe in Sevilla. It is a small town with many tourists and I had no issues walking around by myself alone at night. It is the 4th largest city in Spain, but it is compact and secure.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Without a cell phone, phone calls are always a big expense and an inconvenience because you have to find a public place. Also, I did not have internet so I spent SO much at internet places when I need to be connected. If you will use the phone alot, especially for international plans, i'm sure a go-phone with a plan would be a good option.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
Language acquisition improvement?

Immersion and daily practice is key. The Andaluz accent takes some getting used to, but overall reading and writing in Spanish will ensure that you improve.

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? If you are looking for a warm and sociable atmosphere, Sevilla is the place for you! The University was classic, the people are friendly and passionate (so much tradition!), and the atmosphere is jovial. Architecturally, the city is incredible- windy roads and mosaic benches in every little plaza. I never got bored, and found it enchanting.
