Great experience Past Review
By Claire (The University of Texas at Austin) - abroad from 02/08/2016 to 06/02/2016 with
University of Sheffield: Sheffield - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
It was definitely worthwhile, I have had more personal gains than anything else and that alone would have made it worth it even if everything else didn't go as good as it had!
Personal Information
| How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 2 weeks - 1 month |
Review Your Program
|
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
|
|
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The only interaction I had with administration was during registration. They were all helpful. |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
|
| * Food: |
I like to cook and eat healthy, the quality of food here is much better for the price than it is in America. However, there are things I miss (like hot sauce). I didn't eat out at all so I can't comment on that. |
|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I live with 5 British housemates and never felt excluded from the culture. I've been to places with cultures much different than my own so British culture didn't provide much of a cultural shock. |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I never had any health issues but the university has onsite health services for students. |
| * Safety: |
I never felt unsafe walking around, even in the evenings. |
| If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I would because I have had such a great experience with the people I ended up with. Had my housemates or friends been different I'm not sure if I would want to do it again, only because I would have like more cultural differences. |
Finances
|
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Due to the exchange rate not being in favor of the dollar everything was more expensive. However, I was able to find ways to eat and live affordably. Rent was cheaper for me here than in Austin. |
| Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | Rent, food, utilities: ~$180 |
| Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Eat simply and prep everything yourself and you can save so much money. I would go to The Moor Market to get cheap fruit, vegetables, and eggs. |

Reasons For Studying Abroad

The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
