University of St. Andrews: St. Andrews - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
Really loved taking classes at another university and meeting local students. It was great to travel on weekends with friends and explore. Definitely worthwhile!
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 1 month - 6 months |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Great professors! I took honours-level courses, which are more seminar-style, so you really get to know professors and classmates. Really supportive and friendly people. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Pretty straightforward enrollment/course selection |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
You rank housing options and then take what they offer you. I was happy to have a single with my own bathroom, and got to know everyone on my hall really well. Definitely trade-offs between price, room style, and location, but you get a say in what you get. |
* Food: |
N/A, I was self-catered so I bought/cooked my own food, and didn't take any meals at halls |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Meeting people in halls and at the student union was really easy and I really recommend joining an "academic family" at the beginning of fall, so you meet upperclassmen and freshmen! Definitely a highlight of my experience abroad |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
N/A, I didn't have any health issues |
* Safety: |
St Andrews is an incredibly safe place and I didn't have any issues |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
I was self catered so I spent a good amount of money on food, maybe $50/week. Using pounds instead of dollars can be tricky, but there are a lot of student deals so I didn't have any problems there |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | If you want to take any trips on the weekends or breaks, plan them as far in advance as you can, and always check for student discounts. |
