University of Stirling: Stirling - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned that there's so much more to the world than I've been exposed to. I also learned that sometimes when you go out and do things on your own, you grow the most.

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The schooling was very different than the schooling I had been exposed to at the University of Northern Iowa

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

I don't even know who the onsite administrator was, but the study abroad office in Scotland was very helpful

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved the location of my apartment, I was close to the city, church, and train station.

* Food:

I didn't feel like the culture ate very healthy, there were lots of different foods.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I never had any health issues, but some friends that I had found healthcare easily accessible .

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Really depends on how much you travel and eat out. The pound to USD rate is not good.

The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
