Study at Stirling Past Review

University of Stirling: Stirling - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I believe that it was because I grew a lot personally from the experience and was forced to be truly on my own and explore the world for the first time. I was very satisfied with my experience there but in the end, I would like to go to a place where I would be forced to learn a new language while abroad.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Nothing was challenging as far as the time committment needed for the program. Tons of downtime. Class participation was rarely emphasized.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Didn't need to work with them during my stay except to pay my housing bill which got a little confusing.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Very small rooms and because I was in a smaller 'flat', mine didn't have a living room. Bedding was provided, as was a pillow, and they cleaned it for you every two weeks which was nice.

* Food:

There was no meal plan at this university (unless you wanted something outrageously priced (makes other dining services look stellar). I needed to buy and cook all of my own food and thankfully my flatmates had cookware.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

This was the best aprt about being abroad - the people I got to meet and befriend were from all over the world and had amazing experiences and I am sure that I will keep in touch with some of them forever. It was also really nice to find such great people because going out was much more enjoyable.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I didn't need to deal with any of this and don't know anyone who did.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Direct Enrollment

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? The budget listed is in that category based only on essentials needed (toiletrees, groceries, books and other necessary day to day items.) If you want to join a school group, you need to pay extra money (which can get costly) and depending on how much you go out a week or would like to travel around Scotland or Europe, things can get more pricey. I recommend using Ryanair to book cheap flights around Europe (or Easyjet) and getting all the weekend trips in possible! I joined the mountaineering club which was a great way to see all of the beautiful landscape Scotland had to offer. The international Society is FANTASTIC and the cater to forgein students and run loads of programs, trips, and events so go to every one of them!
