Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I took one level 1 course, three level 2 courses, and one level 3 course. The level three course was equivalent to the workload and difficulty at my home institution. The level one class was a COMPLETE joke. I only attended class two times all term and scored a final mark of 98. The level two courses were not quite that easy, but still did not compare to my home institution, they required almost no outside studying. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The host country study abroad program office is a complete joke. None of the workers seem to know anything and will continually send you to other offices throughout campus to try to get you the correct answer. They sent out "weekly" emails not every week but monthly, they were horrible at communicating information to ALL of the study abroad students. I would not recommend coming to this university AT ALL. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The housing was awful. The rooms were far too small, one of the two showers that my hall uses (13 people) was not in service for over two months, the cooking package that we had to pay for was the cheapest stuff I have ever bought and all of us had to end up buying our own supplies in town because they were so awful, the hot water was out for 3 days, the heating was out for 3 days during the term and it was far to cold, there was no air-conditioning or air circulation besides opening your windows. |
* Food: |
There is no dining on campus, you must cook all of your own food. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
During Sussex in September we took several field trips and it was great. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | N/A |

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |

Immunology in Health and Disease |
Course Department: | Biochemistry - C7121 |
Instructor: | Nadia Terrazzini |
Instruction Language: | English |
Comments: | It was challenging, I loved it. It was well taught, the material was difficult and required studying outside of the class. |
Credit Transfer Issues: | None. It transfered to my home institution as "Immunology" |
Course Name/Rating: |
Cell Regulation and Cancer |
Course Department: | Biochemistry - C7108 |
Instructor: | Mike Titheradge / Simon Morley |
Instruction Language: | English |
Comments: | Interesting course, yet not quite difficult enough as it would have been at my home institution. The course was rushed and could have been way more detailed. |

Course Name/Rating: |
Introduction to Biochemistry |
Course Department: | Biochemistry - C7130 |
Instructor: | Darren Thompson / Louise Serpell / Neil Crickmore |
Instruction Language: | English |
Comments: | It was a COMPLETE JOKE. I do not advise any student to take this course. It was at the academic level of a secondary school student (age 15). DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. |
Credit Transfer Issues: | Because of the level of difficulty it did not transfer as anything. NOTHING!!! |
Course Name/Rating: |
Introduction to Medicinal Chemistry |
Course Department: | SIS06 |
Instructor: | James Hanson |
Instruction Language: | English |
Comments: | Interesting course, it was challenging but not quite enough. The course would have been much more difficult at my home institution. |
Credit Transfer Issues: | This course did not transfer back to my home institution as a specific class, however it transfered back as an "upper-division chemistry elective". |
Course Name/Rating: |
Behavioral Ecology |
Course Department: | Biology and Environmental Sciences - C1135 |
Instructor: | Jeremy Field |
Instruction Language: | English |
Comments: | This class was so incredibly boring. The University of Sussex has the largest insect lab in all of the UK and that entire course was devoted to social insects. I was NOT taught behavioral ecology, I was taught behavioral ecology of social insects. Very easy and definitely not academically challenging enough. |
Credit Transfer Issues: | This course transfered to my home institution as "Ecology". |
