A summer in Brighton, UK: The perfect way to get summer credits completed! Past Review
By Catherine S (Exercise/Sport Science, None) for
University of Sussex: Brighton - International Summer School
Absolutely! I my class was interesting and fulfilled a prerequisite for graduate school, I was able to immerse myself into true English culture (something I don't think you can achieve truly in London), and I had the opportunity to travel to Scotland for a weekend. My only recommendation would be to do this program for the full summer rather than just half the summer. One month went by so fast and I didn't want to leave!

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I only took one course, and it was a psychology course. It was very discussion-based since the class only had 8 people. For humanities, I highly recommend it, but you will have to talk to someone else if you are interested in the sciences since those classes tend to be bigger. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Most of it was student-led and they had activities for us every night. Everything was very well thought out and it was a very rewarding experience. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Everything is provided to you. I lived in a single with a full kitchen and it was a GORGEOUS facility. |
* Food: |
You have to be willing to try new things, so I had no problem with the food. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Sussex arranges day trips to London, Bath, Stonehenge, and practically any other surrounding town in England you can think of. During one of the sessions, there is a 3-day trip to Paris where you take the Chunnel. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
