University of Sydney: Sydney - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
I gained more confidence in my ability to live on my own and navigate social, academic, professional and financial situations independently. I also made some amazing friends who I will always cherish because we had such an amazing experience together.

Sydney was such a great city to live in because it had every kind of atmosphere I could have used for. On a rainy day, there were so many small cafes with amazing food to get work done and chat with friends. On hot and sunny days, themes beautiful beaches I have ever seen were just an easy bus ride away and on days when schoolwork was my main priority, there were so many great parks, libraries and other places where I could go to get my work done. I also found the academics to be rigorous enough that I felt fully engaged with y schoolwork but not so demanding that I couldn't fully enjoy the amazing country I had come to explore. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Sydney is an incredibly fun and exciting place to live as a student but personally, the affordability for me was dependent on the fact that my family was able to provide me with resources to help with housing and food. Sydney is not the cheapest place to live but it's certainly manageable if you take the time to find the best/most reasonably priced places to shop, live and have fun. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Live in a place where you can cook your own food! The Queen Mary Building in Camperdown is where I chose to live and the communal kitchen was a great place to work on my own cooking and meet new people in my building. |

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I wish I knew how quickly a semester would fly by in such a new and exciting place. I don't regret anything from my time abroad except possibly not taking more opportunities to travel around within Australia and surrounding countries. |
Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Nearly Native or Trail BlazerCraving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.' |
