About

This program gives students a unique insight into a neighboring country inaccessible to U.S. citizens due to a history fraught with political antagonism. It focuses on how local writers, filmmakers, photographers, architects and visual artists in Cuba have responded, contributed or objected to the power of local and international cultural and political icons since before the Cold War through our global present.

Set primarily in Havana with excursions to important Cuban cities, this program focuses on key works of Cuban art, with visits to museums, institutes and other sites accompanied by local scholars. Students examine U.S. stereotypes about an "enemy country" by exploring the Cuban perspective, considering how art and culture can increase mutual understanding and bridge differences amid great ideological and geopolitical conflict.
