University of Texas - San Antonio: Worldwide - Independent Research Abroad

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
On the surface I learned about Decolonial Theory from some of the leading voices in the field. Beyond this I learned so much about myself and what I am capable of as a woman, student, scholar, spouse, and parent. I am a changed person. I feel better able to listen and understand various perspectives and feel more focused than ever on the decolonial practice of building bridges as a way to connect with others. I have even brought this knowledge into the intimate space of the home and it has helped me as a wife and parent. This study abroad experience was more than worthwhile. It was essential.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The study abroad staff made it easy to prepare for the trip. I felt good knowling I had international insurance, something that never crossed my mind until the orientation meeting.
  • The program itself was amazing and I am just thrilled to have participated in this life-changing experience.
* What could be improved?
  • Nothing I can see! It was great!!!
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Walking shoes and small bag (purse) are a must when abroad. I was told but didn't listen. This would have made much of the walking I did in Spain more enjoyable!
