University of Wisconsin - La Crosse: Dominican Republic Alternative Spring Break
This trip was most definitely worthwhile. We learned so much about the different ways people live in the Dominican Republic as well as how the past has influenced the current state of the country. I was very satisfied with my experience because the kids on the trip were amazing, our teacher was phenomenal and words cannot express how wonderful our guide and the people who organized our trip were.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
There was a lot of information given but writing it down made it easier to retain. The final paper will not be very hard to complete. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The program was wonderful. The number of students who went was perfect. Our Faculty Leader was wonderful. She helped us with anything thing we needed and made sure we understood everything. Our guide was amazing. He got us everywhere we needed to go on time and he translated everything for us since many of us did not know Spanish. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I loved the places we stayed. Our first hotel was nice and was ideally located to see various historic places. The other places we stayed at were beautiful and all eco-friendly. |
* Food: |
The food was wonderful. There was a lot of authentic cuisine and much of it was fresh, local ingredients. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
The entire trip was a cultural event. There was so much to experience. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
We had no interactions with healthcare in the Dominican Republic. I felt very safe the entire time because there was always someone with us to help us get where we needed to go. The only issue was you could not drink the tap water but that was not much of a problem because our guides provided us water. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
