University of Wisconsin - Stout: London - London Summer Art
I have more confidence in myself especially with directions and traveling on my own. I also think my maturity and confidence in my artwork and myself improved.
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
i liked the freedom of the class,I chose the media and subjects for all my artwork. I wish there was more instruction amd actual critiques to better myself and my artwork. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Charlie was really nice and knows a lot about England. I think he is getting older and tired of leading people around showing England to excited students.I'm not sure he is as flexible as he claimed he would be with class time. The events we were excited to attend were all during the week days and often were not "culturally signifigant" for Charlie. I also think he was too flexible with our artwork. I think we would have benefit from more critiques. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The rooms were very small or shared with 6 other girls, so it took some getting used to, but overall I liked the housing. The cookware and bedding were all provided. The housing was close to activities and a bus/train ride to city centers. |
* Food: |
The food selection and diversity was outstanding! There was a vegetarian and a girl with a gluton free diet on our trip and they both were perfectly content and could eat very easily. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
There were not many planned trips through Charlie and the program. There was a trip to Greenwich, Deptford Market, London central,Brighton, and Edinburgh. All the trips constisted of Charlie leading us down there and letting us run free and find our way home. I wish he told us more of what there is to do in the locations. We had nights and weekends free, so we took advantage of those times to explore on our own and go to the events we wanted to see/experience. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
The only safety issues we experienced were local teen gangs, that did not bother us, and the riots happening in the London area. We just avoided areas and times that were potentially dangerous. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | food is expensive museums are free, but a lot of other tours and locations cost money booze in pubs is expensive |
Language
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |

Comments: | All my artwork was from observations and pictures of the areas we visited, so it was completely inspired and necessary to take the trip to Egland to complete the class. Class attendance was required and was all day with only 8 students, so I was there the whole time. That is not uncommon for me though, so I would say I spent the same amount of time participating in class as I would at home. |
Credit Transfer Issues: | I think everything is going to work out credit wise with my program. I reccommend this program for upperclassmen who know they are confident and know what they want to do. |
