Overall Experience
Past Review Time Of My Life
I learned so much throughout my time in Spain. While I learned a lot about the language and culture, I learned even more about myself. This experience pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to look at who I am and where I am headed. - Grand Valley State University View Entire Review
Past Review Best Experience
I learned a lot about the spanish culture, and improved a lot in the language. Definitely a worthwhile experience. - University of Maryland - College Park View Entire Review
It was an amazing experience and absolutely worth while. I learned how to adapt to a new culture in a short period of time and my Spanish-speaking skills improved dramatically, but I believe there are other places in Spain that I could have gone to, in which I would have had more opportunities to work on my Spanish. - University of the Pacific View Entire Review
What didn't I learn while abroad? I learned more about myself in six months than I have throughout my entire life. I became more patient, more open, more tolerant, and more understanding not only of foreign cultures, but of the differences in American ways of life as well. It was fascinating to learn how people from different pa... - University of Nevada - Reno View Entire Review

yes, definitely worthwhile! I had the time of my life, and was easily able to travel in between weekends and after the program! - California State University - Chico View Entire Review
I have learned a lot about a new culture, and also lots about the United States as well. I've learned that there is a whole world out there that knows more about our country than we do, and we need to really make an effort to integrate ourselves more. - Towson University View Entire Review

A student studying abroad with USAC: Alicante - Spanish Language and European Studies
I gained a greater understanding of the world, the Spanish language and culture and myself. I really wanted to double major in Spanish after this, but my school doesn't offer it so I will be doing some independent learning. - Michigan Technological University View Entire Review
There's a reason why anyone who studies abroad will talk your ear off for hours. There's also a reason that most people who didn't study abroad wish that they did. Take a step out of ordinary life and into the extraordinary. - University of Idaho View Entire Review
I gained so much: the ability to speak spanish almost fluently, the courage to travel to new places where I didn't know the language, to explore, to learn about myself and other cultures, and the appreciation of life and beautiful parts of Europe and Spain. I know now that this is something I want to do for the rest of my life. - Loyola University Chicago View Entire Review

different perspective of life - University of the Pacific View Entire Review
Independence, how to budget, the language, cultural, travel, the list is endless! - University of Nevada - Reno View Entire Review
I improved my Spanish conversational skills, and I found that if you are always yourself you will be pleasantly surprised how many people are just as weird/quirky as you are. Being yourself makes others comfortable to do the same! Definitely worthwhile. - University of Nevada - Reno View Entire Review
I learned so much about myself, about what it means to be American, about what it means to travel and engage in other cultures. I can communicate and make friends in a second language. This was the most influential semester of my life! To anyone on the fence... GO! - Loyola University Chicago View Entire Review
I made life-long friends that I am always going to keep in contact with. It was definitely worthwhile. - University of the Pacific View Entire Review
Yes, I learned a lot about myself and had a good time. However if I were to do it again, I wouldn't go to Western Europe. It was expensive and similar in many ways to America. - University of the Pacific View Entire Review
Yes, it was being in Spain allowed me to be away from my country and be challenged, but it also gave me a rare opportunity to reflect on myself and redirect my life. I have changed my academic interests in wanting to pursue a different career path. - University of the Pacific View Entire Review
The USAC staff is amazing. They were here to help me out during any crisis or incident that occurred. - University of the Pacific View Entire Review

About

The Alicante program is ideal for students who wish to experience all that a beautiful Spanish city on the Mediterranean has to offer. Alicante is a modern, welcoming city bathed by the Mediterranean Sea which offers all the advantages of being located in such a setting. The magnificent sandy beaches and blue waters of the coast, sunny weather, rich history, and lovely monuments make Alicante a top destination in Spain. People in Alicante live most of their life outdoors as part of the Mediterranean lifestyle: busy cafés, vibrant nightlife, street markets, and local festivals are abundant. The campus is also one of the most beautiful in Spain, with lovely gardens, fountains, palm trees, and modern architecture. All of these factors create a great learning and social atmosphere for USAC students. This program offers two diverse academic areas: Intensive Language and Spanish and European Studies. You will have the opportunity to study the Spanish language and the complexities of Spanish and contemporary European societies through a wide selection of academic courses, as well as through personal interaction with the host culture. You may stay for one semester, a full year, or for a summer session. Our intensive approach also allows you to complete up to two years of university foreign language coursework in only one semester to help meet Spanish minor or major requirements.  In addition to the USAC courses, advanced language students can take academic courses, workshops, and internships at the University of Alicante, providing an unparalleled opportunity for integration. You may even have local students in your USAC courses. Alicante is also home to Ciudad de la Luz—the largest, most modern cinema studio complex in Europe—where USAC students may take Filmmaking each spring. However, the academic courses are only a part of the intended value of study abroad. Participation in formal and informal cultural and group activities, such as field trips and visits to cultural events and village festivals, also constitute an integral part of the experience. The first four days of each semester also offer an optional tour of Madrid.
