USAC England: Brighton - Undergraduate Courses
My time abroad gave me great experience of living more independently and how to be comfortable with traveling and being in unfamiliar settings.

Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 0-2 weeks |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The academics at Brighton Uni required more independent learning and studying but students were given access to plenty of resources and the other students were helpful. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The program administrators Mary, Becca, and Zoe are really great people and were always there to help and make it a great experience! |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The flats are pretty good. Eight people to a flat each having their own room and bathroom. There' s small kitchen/living room in each flat which was good for hanging out as long as you weren't all trying to cook at once. Only a quick walk to the bus stop to get everywhere, like the pub. |
* Food: |
There's plenty of good places to eat in town and several grocery stores to choose from with easy bus access. Also, plenty of good pubs to check out. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Brighton's such a diverse city with so many different types of people, and most of them being very friendly, that anyone could feel at home.Someone will always strike up a conversation with you in the pub. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
There were no real health concerns in Brighton. |
* Safety: |
The folks in Brighton are great and I never felt concerned about safety, even during late nights spent at the pubs in town. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
Of all the cities I visited during my semester abroad, none could match the fun and diverse character, people, and available experiences as Brighton, never mind the wonderful natural landscapes within such easy proximity of of such a great city! Whether in the pub, exploring the countryside, or in class it was an experience I'd never trade for anything! |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
The costs of things in the UK in general seemed like they might be a bit higher than in the U.S. but with good budgeting it shouldn't be too bad. |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | It's a lot cheaper to buy most of your food at the grocery store and cook yourself than eating out a lot. Same for when you go to the pub. |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
