USAC England: London - Undergraduate and Graduate Courses

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The biggest thing I learned and gained from this program was independence and being able to figure things out on my own in a completely new culture and country.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

This program was not intense for class. We didn't have any homework and our entire grade was based on our final essay or test. We had 4 classes that would meet once a week so there wasn't much in person class time.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The program administration was super helpful and very on top of things if I ever had a problem or issue with anything. The resident director was always had time to help the students and we would go on field trips with USAC around every other weekend or so to show us different parts of London and England.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The living arrangements were okay, but the kitchens were a mess when we first got there and once a day the fire alarm would go off in the building and no one would leave because we all knew that it was a drill. Sometimes they would go off at 4 in the morning and wake everyone up.

* Food:

There was a bunch of on campus food that was super cheap and really great. There was also so many options of food outside of campus and so much diversity on food options.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

We were given a lot of freedom to interact with students studying at London Met full-time and I was able to make so many friends living in the student apartments (The Arcade) from all around the world that I still keep in touch with to this day.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I didn't have any health issues while I was abroad but one of the people in my program broke their leg while there and everything seemed smooth and nothing was too rigorous.

* Safety:

I felt very safe in London and walking around at night and nothing every really happened that was a super big safety concern. There was a lot of things going on around and I saw multiple people get tackled on the street and being arrested but nothing ever happened directly to me.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

There is about this program that I would change and everything went smooth the location was fantastic and the people were incredible.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Living in London is super expensive but nothing that you can't budget for.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $150 dollars per week
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Try not to eat out all the time but also have fun and spend some money.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
