What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I really enjoyed being abroad this summer--it was so worth it. There were ups and downs, but it was a valuable experience. It was fascinating to be in a place with such rich history, and I am really happy about the independence I developed while navigating cities in Germany. My German also improved in leaps and bounds. Do it--you won't regret it!

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I thought the assignment of credit hours was a little unfair in one of my classes, but overall, it was a great experience.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Administrators were very helpful with all aspects of studying abroad (including housing issues and illness).

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived in student housing (William-Watt-Str. 57) with 4 German students. I had my own room, shared a bathroom with one other girl, and had a nice kitchen area. The room itself was very nice, but the location of the student housing was too far away from everything.

Housing was great, but actually proximity to class, nightlife, other USAC students, etc., was less than desirable.

* Food:

Grocery shopping at ALDI was inexpensive, at was eating lunch at the on-campus cafeteria.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Lueneburg is a nice city! There's a farmer's market every Saturday morning, plenty of places in the city to check out, and a great nightlife scene!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I got sick one day and had to see a doctor, but the process was super easy. The resident director helped me get in contact with a recommended doctor, and I didn't have to worry about paying and then getting reimbursed. I just sent the bill to the USAC insurance company and didn't have to worry about it!

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Food ~ 110 Euro/week Calling home ~ 10 Euro/week Transportation in Luenburg (bus) = free w/ Student ID Travel on weekends ~ between 40 and 300 Euro/wknd
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? A Euro DOES NOT equal a dollar. Keep track of the exchange rate and how much you spend. Europe is very expensive.

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Intermediate
Language acquisition improvement?

My German improved vastly.
