A Semester at St. Andrews Past Review
By A student (Economics., Wellesley College) - abroad from 09/08/2012 to 12/19/2012 with
USAC Scotland: St. Andrews - Undergraduate Courses
I really enjoyed not being at Wellesley, being able to chill out and not take everything so seriously all of the time. I also found a lot of independence, the educational system there is really sink or swim, you don't need to go to class and they don't remind you of tuition payment deadlines, course registration times, or even tell you when/where your classes are. One needs to be really self reliant.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I thought the courses were not challenging but I took first year courses and focused more on being abroad |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
they were not helpful when I did have questions but I didn't need to turn to them much which was good |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
yes they were very nice. |
* Food: |
pretty good considering we were in Scotland |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
the school is in a very small town with mostly college students. living with first years, since they are the only ones who live in campus housing, made it hard to meet other people of other years. plus a huge percent of the school was American, I didn't expect that going in. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
great we went right through NHS and they were efficient, thorough, and free. |
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
