If I had the money, I would have stayed in Nagasaki forever! The people are kind and welcoming, classes interesting, and the city's history is fascinating. UW-Platteville Education Abroad has been helping students from across the United States study at the Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies (NUFS) since 1995. Since then, students from more than 80 universities nationwide have chosen to study abroad in Nagasaki, Japan through UW-Platteville Education Abroad. Today, students can study at NUFS for:
- an academic year
- a fall semester (early assessment)
- a fall semester (full term)
- a spring semester
NUFS was founded in 1947 and is fully accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Education. With a total enrollment of about 800 students, international students from around the world account for nearly 40 percent of the student population, bringing a unique international perspective to NUFS.The current NUFS campus, built in 1996, is located on the northern border of Nagasaki City and its suburb of Togitsu. Nagasaki, a city of about 500,000 people on the western island of Kyushu, is built around a natural harbor and climbs up the surrounding steep hills. UW-Platteville Education Abroad Scholarships
This Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies (NUFS) Academic Scholarsip is available to students applying to study at NUFS through UW-Platteville Education Abroad. Students with at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA will be awarded 70,000 yen and students with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA will be awarded 120,000 yen. If awarded, the scholarship amount will be deducted from the awardee's program cost.

Guidelines/Requirements:
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
1. Applicant must be a full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student in the semester preceding their education abroad experience.
2. Applicant must be accepted into the education abroad program at NUFS.
3. Application must have at least one year of undergraduate studies completed at the time of application.
4. Applicant must have a minimum cumulative 3.2 GPA.
5. Applicant must submit the most recent version of their academic transcript (must be an official copy).
