More Than I Could Have Ever Asked For! Past Review
By Kayla S (Nursing., University of Indianapolis) - abroad from 09/21/2012 to 12/22/2012 with
Webster University: Athens - Odyssey in Athens
This trip was amazing, no lie. I gained so much knowledge about the world and life in general. The program opened my eyes to the whole other side of the world. It's amazing what three months in another country can do for a person.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | None |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
It was great! Classes are really fun and different from ones in the States. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
My apartment was two doors down from the school so I absolutely loved it! Also, my apartment is very spacious. |
* Food: |
Greek food is amazing! Try everything that you can! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I felt really integrated with the culture. It was easy to adapt to. But everyone who comes over has to remember that it's not America, so don't expect things to be like home at all. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Greece isn't as dangerous as the media portrays it to be. Demonstrations occurred 5 minutes away and you really couldn't tell they were going on unless you walked to the area where they were. We were always emailed when to avoid the areas where the demonstrations were. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
The best advice I can give is to take all cash over here or find a card that doesn't charge international. One of my roommates had a Charles Schwab card and I believe that she could pull money out without a charge. I got charged around $1000 in fees from my bank. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 100 euro |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Come with a plan of what you would like to do. I chose to go the random way and ended up buying three plane tickets and taking three trips over here. So now that it's the end, money is running short. |
