Rikkyo is one of the oldest and most highly respected private universities in Japan, founded in 1874 by the Rt. Rev. Channing Moore Williams, a missionary bishop of the American Episcopal Church. Formerly a men's college, the university now enrolls more than 15,000 men and women and has developed the Japanese Language Education Program for foreign students. Rikkyo University is located in the northwestern part of the city of Tokyo, in a busy downtown area called Ikebukuro. WMU students interested in this exchange program may be able to contact students from the host institution currently studying at WMU.
