Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Due to COVID-19, the program is conducted fully remote, with no access to the Fudan University campus. The professors are knowledgeable and taking Chinese-style university class is intriguing, but if it was on-site it would be much better. However, if not for COVID-19, this program would not have opened to students with Chinese National Identity.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

TEAN as the provider for the program, has many intentional or unintentional communication gap with the university itself. University administration is applaudable.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I lived at my own home in China, so didn't experience the housing.

* Food:

same as housing.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

No communication gap with other students

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

No experience

* Safety:

No experience

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

It was fully online, so wouldn't be much different from choosing all Wellesley's online courses, except that Wellesley's online courses were during night time for Chinese students.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

I lived at home so no experience.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?

  • Chinese-perspective of my major courses
  • Day-time classes *(no need to take American classes during midnight)
* What could be improved?
  • communication between TEAN and Fudan
  • campus access
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish they determined at the start that we have no chance of accessing the campus (and told us so).

Reasons For Studying Abroad

The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
