About
Cuba constitutes an enigma to most Americans due to its political situation and its relationship to the United States. This program offers participants an opportunity to explore, analyze, and report on a country with a rich history, a unique culture and an intriguing socio-political status in the world. It will allow participants to examine discrepancies between what they have been told and what they will observe. Cuba has a vibrant society with a strong cultural identity, and a highly educated population that values the arts, literature, music and dance. It offers free education and universal health care but not the freedoms expected of western societies. Participants will be able to meet with Cuban students and exchange thoughts and ideas. They will be able to observe the positives and negatives of a vastly different political culture. During this trip we will meet with Americans and Cubans working in Havana. We will visit old and new Havana, schools, museums and sights pertaining to the country’s history and politics. We will also venture outside Havana to visit the countryside, coastal regions and eco-communities to see how Cuba is working to protect its natural resources and botanical beauty. Special Guest Lecturer: Former NBC Cuba Correspondent, Ed Rabel
