AMIDEAST is a program provider offering 9 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad, Internship, Volunteer, and Intensive Language abroad programs in 4 countries such as Jordan, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, and Tunisia.
Amideast is a private, nonprofit organization that for more than 70 years has sought to create opportunity and mutual understanding among people in the Middle East, North Africa, and the United States through impactful education and cultural exchange opportunities. In collaboration with local partners in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, we have contributed to improved education and career prospects for the people of the MENA region — and underserved youth and women in particular — through English language, workplace skills, entrepreneurship and innovation training programs; STEM activities; institutional capacity building; and educational exchange program administration. The relationships we have developed over the past seven plus decades have resulted in valuable partnerships on which we draw to enrich the experiences and expand the insights of study abroad students from a broad spectrum of interests.
Amideast is the only provider specialized in the MENA region, which means that you get knowledgeable, personalized service from credible academic and study abroad professionals with extensive area expertise and a commitment to decoloniality in programming.
Amideast offers diverse education abroad options, including in-person and hybrid modalities; stand-alone, direct enroll, customized/faculty-led programs; and our own fully accredited summer and semester programs. In addition to our ongoing programs in Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, and UAE, we have also hosted programs in other countries, including Egypt, Kuwait, and Lebanon. The map below shows all the countries where Amideast works.
Study Abroad with AMIDEAST
"The program was definitely worthwhile. In a general sense, I feel more exposed to the issues surrounding North Africa, Morocco, and the Muslim world. But on a personal level, the program pushed me academically and physically. The culture shock was a little intense at times, but it was surprising how quickly I adapted. I used a b..."

A student Louisiana State University - Baton Rouge
"I gained so much I think a list would be too extensive. Culture, language, friendships, and much more. If I had the option, I would hop on a plane and do it all over again right now."
Gabriella H Viterbo University
"I learned how to live on my own in a foreign country, how to acclimate myself to a culture totally unlike my own, and how to befriend people even when there is a clear language barrier present. The experience was utterly worthwhile, as I gained very useful language and interpersonal skills, and I plan on returning to Amman next ..."
A student Brandeis University
"I am definitely glad that I chose AMIDEAST, despite a few of the setbacks I had with professors and my host family. Most of my courses were incredible and the program staff in Amman are very competent and responsive to the needs of students, without being overly involved or coddling. I really loved the language partner component..."

"I realized that Arabic is not out of reach, and that the seemingly impossible language of Darija is also obtainable. I traveled to every corner of Morocco, learned about its past and present, and made lifelong friends. I know that I will return to Morocco many times over!"

"Perspective and experience, it was worth it"
A student Virginia Military Institute
"I learned that looking at other cultures as either completely different or completely similar is a simplification. I learned the nuances of Arabic culture. Arabs have traditions and customs that differ from those found in the U.S., but youth also have similar hobbies and tastes. I appreciated the chance to improve my language sk..."

Andrew H Princeton University
"While it may seem obvious that other places will have cultural differences, it can be difficult to realize the full extent of these differences until you are actually in that place. For anyone studying international affairs or the middle east I believe that it is essential to study abroad extensively. "
Eli L George Washington University
"I really appreciated the support, but I would have been more strict about enforcing a language contract on myself. Yeah, it was worthwhile."
Madeline C The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned to be patient with cultural differences when interacting with my Jordanian friends I met through the program. I also saw myself mature and drastically improve my Arabic language skills (I jumped up 3.5 levels in proficiency versus the average 1.7). I can now say Jordan is a city I see myself working in farther in the f..."
