Direct Enrollment/Exchange is a program provider offering 1872 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad, Internship, Volunteer, Intensive Language, Gap Year, Graduate Program, High School, Research, Online Program, TEFL Courses, and Adventure Travel abroad programs in 121 countries such as Spain, Costa Rica, Italy, and Ecuador.
Below you will find a directory of foreign universities and reviews from students who participated in an exchange, or in direct enrollment.
In a Direct Enrollment program, students have the option of applying directly to the university they wish to attend abroad. Students can go for either one or two semesters and apply using that university's application process listed for international students. Sometimes these students are called Visiting Students, Guest Students or Free Movers. At the foreign university, they will be supported by the university's office of international students, housed with other international students and have the opportunity not only to immerse in a foreign culture, but to do so with students from all over the world.
In an Exchange, you attend a foreign university and a foreign student attends your home university, a student swap for a semester or year. Your university will handle the details of the exchange, you just need to find the ideal foreign university. Hopefully the listings and reviews below can help you down that path. You will need to contact your university's study abroad department or your academic advisor for details on the exchange because the number of valid/active exchange partners may be very limited.

"I learned that the world is so much bigger than the bubble that is America. I met so many people from all over Europe, so I got to compare what my life and this country is like compared to theirs. There's something so exciting about going to a completely new place where you don't know anybody and having to figure everything out...."

"Absolutely. It was incredibly challenging and I was in over my head. I went to the largest city in Europe, where I speak zero of the language entirely alone without any sort of program. In retrospect, it was arrogant and stupid to do it that way and paralyzed me in the beginning. I had done the same in Argentina a few years back..."
A student Middlebury College
"After studying abroad, I became a lot more comfortable being independent and more comfortable in my own company. I lost the shyness, I would feel to speak in Spanish because I was proud to be actually living and surviving in Spain. It was the best decision I made, after deciding to go to university."
kay.augustus.3 Duquesne University

"Since Alcala is a smaller town outside of Madrid, I got a more authentic experience since my peers and I were seemingly the only Americans in the town. "Prior to study abroad, I had traveled in Latin America extensively so I had been exposed to other cultures. They open th..."

"Reflecting, there are no negative things that come to mind. Especially coming from Wellesley, I learned that there really is more to life than getting that grade or being in as many orgs as possible. Chesley H Wellesley College
"The six months I spent in Alcalá de Henares were among the most formative of my college education. After learning Spanish for years in American public education systems, where I could learn to read and write but not to speak with confidence, staying with a host family unable to speak English transformed my Spanish. It also trans..."

"It was so worthwhile. An experience I will carry with me the rest of my life. "

"On top of the usual "experiencing a new culture" line, I met some of the nicest and most interesting people I have ever come across. I lived in a dorm unlike anything we have in this country, where 150 people felt like a single family. It was a seamless transition into that family unit and I felt at home from Day One. I couldn't..."
Joe M Middlebury College
"My Spanish improved immensely in such a short amount of time, and my subject classes were great as well. The film class in particular was an interesting insight into Spanish culture and 20th century history. Apart from the academic aspect, the program trips were a great way to see far-flung parts of Spain and meet locals. Finall..."
Matt V Northwestern University

"Studying abroad in Alcala was the best experience of college, and one of the best decisions I have ever made. A small, charming Spanish town with a program that emphasizes language use.
