Everything we do is about the IES Abroad student.
Created in 1950, we believe in crafting unforgettable, life-changing educational adventures that go beyond our students' expectations. Every year about 6,500 study abroad students choose IES Abroad for their authentic study and intern abroad experience.
Our work starta in our Chicago headquarters and spreads across more than 130 study abroad programs in more than 30+ locations worldwide. With this network, we develop authentic global education and life-affirming cultural experiences. We believe that studying abroad should be a part of every student's academic life, and we aim to not only provide study abroad opportunities, but to consistently maintain a friendly, fun, and safe academic and cultural environment.
We believe so firmly in the power of our academically superior programs, that we actively recruit students from diverse populations and pledges more than $5 million in scholarships year after year. We are proud that our students are as diverse and exciting as the countries we study.
Through IES Internships, we offer a variety of full-time semester and summer internships in 15 locations around the world. For more than 40 years, we've provided opportunities to intern in some of the world's most exciting cities. With IES Internships, you'll have a guaranteed placement, more on-the-job hours, dedicated assistance with résumés and interviewing skills, and the ability to network with other students.
How will study abroad redefine you? We can't wait to find out.

Study Abroad with IES Abroad
"It was the most worthwhile thing I have ever done. I learned so much, made a ton of great friends, and visited so many places. Most of all, I became more independent and confident in myself."

"In Barcelona, you never run out of things to do. I wrote a “Barcelona Bucket List” that I got about 20% of the way through, which only gives me an excuse to return in the near future! The location of Barcelona in relation to the rest of Europe is ideal, as it takes less than 2 hours by plane to get to all the main European desti..."

"Even though I had no previous German experience, I was set on going to Vienna which became one of the best decisions for me. IES has a great program that suited my academic needs, while keeping their system Americanized for familiarity's sake. There were plenty of interesting classes (taught in both English and German) to choose..."
Clara Yetter Kenyon College
"I'd never realized my eyes were closed until I opened them to the world of study abroad, in Milan. My home university is a bubble, a safe haven; studying abroad opens you to the world, allowing you to absorb history and culture simply by living. I believe I learned more studying abroad than I had in a lifetime, considering my im..."
Lindsay Hexter Emory University

"The IES program gives you the option to choose from some really interesting classes that you wouldn’t normally take at your home school – I chose to take a film production course while some of my friends chose architecture or theater courses. You can learn a lot from these courses that you wouldn't otherwise know! The internship..."

A student Hope College
"Primarily, I think the language was the most important aspect of my time abroad. Along with the travel, the classes, and the friendships, becoming challenged in a foreign language and being able to progress in that was one of the most rewarding parts of my experience. I think in general just being challenged to a new lifestyle w..."

"I learned so much while I was abroad. I learned about myself, about the world, about South African culture, history, and the people. Everything was worthwhile. I would do and experience it all over again and a thousand times."

"I not only gained a greater understanding of daily culture in France and in the capitol, but am now compelled to soon return and live in Paris or another large french city. "I say to my friends when they ask me how Rome was that it was "unironically life-changing". I remember being nervous at the idea of traveling abroad, reading reviews like this, and thinking, "Yeah right. Inspiring...pooh!" Rome humbled me in a way. It is a city that is startling and frightening at first, and then it takes y..."
