Everything we do is about the IES Abroad student.
Created in 1950, we believe in crafting unforgettable, life-changing educational adventures that go beyond our students' expectations. Every year about 6,500 study abroad students choose IES Abroad for their authentic study and intern abroad experience.
Our work starta in our Chicago headquarters and spreads across more than 130 study abroad programs in more than 30+ locations worldwide. With this network, we develop authentic global education and life-affirming cultural experiences. We believe that studying abroad should be a part of every student's academic life, and we aim to not only provide study abroad opportunities, but to consistently maintain a friendly, fun, and safe academic and cultural environment.
We believe so firmly in the power of our academically superior programs, that we actively recruit students from diverse populations and pledges more than $5 million in scholarships year after year. We are proud that our students are as diverse and exciting as the countries we study.
Through IES Internships, we offer a variety of full-time semester and summer internships in 15 locations around the world. For more than 40 years, we've provided opportunities to intern in some of the world's most exciting cities. With IES Internships, you'll have a guaranteed placement, more on-the-job hours, dedicated assistance with résumés and interviewing skills, and the ability to network with other students.

"I learned that there are so many incredible people in the world! I witnessed a huge tragedy, being so close to the epicenter of a 7.8 earthquake that wiped out a large part of the coast of Ecuador. My friends and I had extreme luck to have survived, and through our journey back to Quito, we encountered so many people who were mo..."

A student Hope College
"I learned to be my own person and not depend on others for what I want to do. It was incredibly worthwhile and I would do it again if I could."
A student Hope College
"As a student with only a basic knowledge of the French language, I spent four months learning about the French culture, language, and marketing (my major). I came back to the US wanting to go back Paris immediately. I had incredibly intelligent professors, a caring staff to ensure everything went smoothly, and a host family that..."
Gwen Babson College
"I learned how to live on my own and support myself when I became homesick or yearned for normalcy. I learned that different and change are a good thing and healthy for the young mind and body. I learned that I love to travel and there is nothing I would rather spend my time doing than seeing the world. I learned that there is mo..."

"I learned so much about South African healthcare both from classes and seeing it in person. I got to see first hand how clinics and hospitals in South Africa differ from the USA. Along with seeing so many cool procedures and surgeries in the hospital. "
A student Trinity University
"I gained so much more than I will ever fathom from this study abroad experience. I learned things like time and stress management, budgeting tips, how to navigate in unfamiliar places, and more. But I also learned more about who I am and the type of person I want to be. Any chance you get to study abroad - DO IT."
A student Hope College
"How do you sum this up? I learned so much about myself, which sounds cheesy but is true. When you are abroad, the support systems you have built up back in the US are still there for you, but in a different way because of your being removed geographically. It was up to me to blossom and grow and initiate relationships here, and ..."
Erin Steward Luther College
"I first and foremost learned what an interesting and quirky place Germany is. How rich its history is, how cool its culture is, and yet how different it is from the places I've been before. And considering all this, as well as the fact that I am Filipino studying in America, I also learned many hard truths about the complexity o..."

"See previous question. Yes, of course."
Katie Harvey University of Rochester
"I learned about myself and independence. I learned about management across cultures. I learned about other countries and cultures. It was the best semester I could have asked for."
Adriana Hamline University
"I gained a new type of independence. I think I always knew that I was an independent person, but studying abroad teaches you to travel by yourself, to engage in conversation with someone who does not speak the same language as you, and to become comfortable with being on the outside of your comfort zone. Even if you've travelled..."
Kayley Deaton George Washington University
"Specifically thinking about differences between my home uni and UC, I learned that just because I have been taught to learn one way does not mean that is the only way. Although it was tricky to adjust to UC's system at first, ultimately I came away from the semester with good grades and a new appreciation for how large universit..."

"Loved being party of a new culture"
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned way too much to write in one paragraph! I learned how to handle myself in a new place, how to travel alone or with new people, how to communicate with people when you don't speak their language (I.e. Portuguese in Brazil), and so much more."
Alex Hughes Bentley University
"My experience increased my world view drastically. Living in a different country for an extended amount of time really immersed me in the culture and the way of life. "The biggest thing I learned from my experience studying in Madrid is that the world is much bigger than we think. There is so much history and culture that can be unlocked by just learning another language, and usually learning a language is easier when immersed in the environment. "
A student University of Rochester
