IES Abroad is a program provider offering 119 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad, Internship, Intensive Language, and Online Program abroad programs in 18 countries such as Australia, Austria, France, and Germany.
Everything we do is about the IES Abroad student.
Created in 1950, we believe in crafting unforgettable, life-changing educational adventures that go beyond our students' expectations. Every year about 6,500 study abroad students choose IES Abroad for their authentic study and intern abroad experience.
Our work starta in our Chicago headquarters and spreads across more than 130 study abroad programs in more than 30+ locations worldwide. With this network, we develop authentic global education and life-affirming cultural experiences. We believe that studying abroad should be a part of every student's academic life, and we aim to not only provide study abroad opportunities, but to consistently maintain a friendly, fun, and safe academic and cultural environment.
We believe so firmly in the power of our academically superior programs, that we actively recruit students from diverse populations and pledges more than $5 million in scholarships year after year. We are proud that our students are as diverse and exciting as the countries we study.
Through IES Internships, we offer a variety of full-time semester and summer internships in 15 locations around the world. For more than 40 years, we've provided opportunities to intern in some of the world's most exciting cities. With IES Internships, you'll have a guaranteed placement, more on-the-job hours, dedicated assistance with résumés and interviewing skills, and the ability to network with other students.
How will study abroad redefine you? We can't wait to find out.

"This program was definitely worth while. I met some of the best friends of my life here. I learned so much about myself. "Studying abroad experience with IES was an opportunity for me to gain French language skill, be independent, and learn cultures. Going to Paris all by myself when I am not confident with the language was a huge challenge, yet I knew that I would have life time experience and lesson from studying abroad. Indeed, this study abroad..."
Clara L Saint Olaf College

Jordan R Indiana University - Bloomington
"I dove into my study abroad experience with little to no expectations. I wasn’t much of a traveler before studying with IES Abroad in Rome – I had been to Canada and Italy with my family before but can’t remember much about my experiences. I was too young to appreciate my surroundings, and, to be totally candid, family vacations..."

A student Fordham University
"I learned a lot about myself while I was abroad. I'm very much a planner and discovered that it was okay to do things spontaneously, like go to another country for a day trip during the weekend or not worry about staying up too late. My biggest takeaway from my experience abroad was knowing that I could move anywhere in the U...."

Studying abroad forced me to seek out and try new experiences and I am not going to let that habit die. I am also more confident advocating for myself now. I have moved to..."
A student University of Rochester
"Coming home is when you realize how much study abroad affected you. A student Vanderbilt University
"Totally worthwhile! I learned how to be more independent and adaptive to new situations. I gained a larger worldview and cultural perspective. My French skills also improved! "
Megan C The College of William and Mary
" Living in a city abroad is so different from simply visiting a place on a vacation; when you live in a city, you really get immersed in the culture and customs of everyday life in that place. The changes in lifestyle that I experienced when I first arrived in Milan took a little time to get used to (i.e. the later dinner time,..."
Emma M University of Rochester
"This opportunity could not have come at a more perfect time. I had just finished my most grueling semester of college and my terms were coming to an end for my positions in both my business and social fraternity. I felt the need to break from the mundane and try something completely new, and the Study London program through IES ..."
