"I definitely found my experience worthwhile. I grew a lot as a person and became more independent. I also got to travel through much of Europe. That being said, I think another program may have been a better fit for me."
Holly W University of Rochester
"If someone told me I could go back tomorrow, I would! It was the best few months of my life! My German language improved significantly, I made many friends, and I was able to travel to many places I never thought I would! It was a great opportunity and I would highly recommend it."
A student Stonehill College
"Don't judge your experience on Study Abroad based on a bad program, wait for the better program. It makes all the difference in the world."
Lauren H Austin College
"I was able to gain a more open minded outlook on things. I was able to see what everyday life was like outside the United States of America. I would say it was definitely worthwhile. I wish I could go back there right now. "
Benjamin S The University of Texas at Austin
"With a new culture comes a completely different way of thinking. Rather than judge someone based on your views try and understand why they believe what they believe."
A student Trinity University
"I gained a much stronger grasp of the Japanese language. While I am far from fluent, I was able to put what I learned in class into actual use. Being able to speak Japanese throughout the entire 3 day home stay program was exciting and rewarding. I learned a lot about Japanese culture, as well as the common misconceptions about ..."
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I learned a lot about myself. Leaving the American academic grind allowed me to decide my own schedule and goals without so much external pressure. I also improved my language skills greatly, which was fulfilling and great for a resumé. Studying abroad was completely worthwhile and I highly recommend it."
A student Northwestern University
"I learned about the different customs in Europe and the different strategies that companies have to utilize when expanding internationally. I also thought the experience was worthwhile and something that I am glad that I did. "
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"The most worthwhile experience I have had. I learned some of the language, I gained a better understanding of the culture, I connected with local people, I gained many new friends, and I found out where I want to live for the rest of my life. "
Rebekah P Austin College
"I did learn academically, but mostly it was just a lot of different everyday experiences."
Emily S The University of Texas at Austin
"Beyond learning a new language I was able to take lessons with a world-class opera singer, I learned how to be confident in a strange city, I learned how to travel well by myself and with others, and overall I learned what is really important to me instead of what I thought was important. Definitely worthwhile."
A student Providence College
"In addition to taking five classes and an internship, I was able to travel to many places I'd been dreaming of visiting and I learned more from the children in my Austrian classroom than I could have done studying German in an American classroom."
A student Providence College
"A different view of life. I'm from a small town in Texas. Berlin is one of the few places that just about anyone can fit in because no one is the same. I've never really experienced that before. It was worthwhile."
Alexandra E Austin College
"An understanding of the way Japanese culture works, and an improvement in my own Japanese fluency. I would say it was very worthwhile. "
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"The experiences I had through the IES field trips and my own personal travels in Japan were by far the best thing about my time in Japan. I got to see historical sites and the natural beauty of the country. Kyoto was the best. If you can go to Kyoto, go. Go right now. Also, my language skills at the end of the program were..."

"I learned to broaden my viewpoint and learn more about other cultures. "
Erin H The University of Texas at Austin
"i learned how to enjoy exploring on my own sometimes as not everyone is interested in what you want to do. i learned that sometimes you have to put your needs before others and do what will make you happy and enjoy your experience. "
A student Brandeis University
"-Embarrassment is a key motivator to learning a new language -It won't be easy to live in Tokyo for a gaijin, so you shouldn't slack off -You meet the most interesting people in unexpected places"
Katherine Z Brandeis University
"I loved the exposure I got to the Western Balkans and the EU. This program was definitely worthwhile. "
A student Trinity University
"I gained a newfound sense of confidence and independence. I am somewhat shy, and this experience truly pushed me out of my comfort zone at times, even though I was in an English-speaking country. Kimberly T Trinity University
"The whole trip was worthwhile to be able to stay with such an awesome host family, and IES was super amazing and took me to many sites. Those two things really made my experience in Japan special. "

"I think that anyone interested in any kind of International work must study abroad. There is no substitute for being at the source of what you are studying. You are more confident about what you know, more motivated to learn, and become more passionate about what you are doing. "
Daniel G The University of Texas at Austin
"After my 6 weeks in Madrid, my Spanish and knowledge of Spain improved dramatically. This experience was worthwhile since I was able to understand their culture much more while having plenty of time to explore this unique country."
