"Excellent research experience, exposure to serious issues, and cultural immersion. Definitely worthwhile but not easy. "

"Language. Maturity. Friends. Cultural exchange"

"I would rank my experience in Madagascar as the number one most important decision I have ever made. I am not exaggerating when I think I thought about it every day for the first 2 years after leaving. I would literally trade anything to go back for one day. I gained so much knowledge not only about Madagascar, but about the wor..."

"Learned how to be humble and blend in to a host country while engaging and keeping an open mind to make the most of each day. "
Alexander M Middlebury College
"I learned far too much to summarize concisely. I learned so much about my own character while I was abroad, in addition to tons of fascinating information about indigenous & local cultures and about the natural ecology and & resource management of the Amazon rainforest."
Lauren D Trinity University
"Yes! I learned so much. From how to cook, how to use Chilenismos properly, how to avoid natural disasters, and how to set up a doctor's appointment in South America. "

"As an anthro major, I'm happy that I developed field work skills and produced research that I am proud of. Before I left, I was afraid to work too outside of my comfort zone, but going abroad made me realize my "comfort zone" is really much more flexible than I thought. Also, Madagascar developed as a serious area of academi..."

"Living in Vietnam provides a unique backdrop for learning about the developing/eastern world, especially from an American perspective. Immersing yourself in any foreign culture will undoubtedly change how you look at things, refine your world view, and give you a strong connection to the culture you're a part of. All of this hap..."

"Absolutely worthwhile. I gained a respect for language, religions, and people of which I was previously completely unaware; I made a lasting connection with a Nepali family, with whom I still remain close; through independent research, I began to understand the challenges of Nepal's current food structure. "

"I am better at speaking Spanish, went on wonderful excursions, and made good friends. I did not learn much."
Petra N Brandeis University
"This program allows you to meet a lot of people and communities that you wouldn't otherwise. I meet so many inspiring people that taught me so much about myself and about Panamanian culture. Completely worthwhile experience and I can't wait to go back. "
Katharine E Wesleyan University
"The obvious answer would be that it's much easier for me to write research papers. The ISP process is an invaluable experience that I wish for everyone to have, and I have learned that I want to conduct research in the future. But I also gained a lot of confidence outside of the area of academia. I feel much more comfortable ..."

"I learned a lot about IR and French. It was definitely worth while. "
A student The University of Texas at Austin
"I gained valuable into an area of the world that I previously knew little about, and made life long friends along the way. The health program, in particular, educated me on Jordan's health care system more thoroughly than I could ever have hoped for. My host family and the SIT teachers were excellent, and I know that if I am eve..."

"It was definitely worthwhile, and I'm glad that I did SIT, even if it wasn't as challenging as I expected. Peru is an amazing country--it has jungle, mountains, beaches, everything and the people wonderful."
A student Illinois Wesleyan University
"Of course it was worthwhile. Every experience I've had abroad (they're extensive!) has been worthwhile in it's own way. I learned to go with the flow, and trust that though my program isn't perfect, in the end I needed to be the one to make it meaningful for myself. That being said, given the opportunity to do it again, I would ..."
A student Middlebury College
"I became more confident, more self and globally aware, empathetic towards others, mature, strong, adventurous, curious about others' lives, and I developed a serious love for traveling and teaching children in less privileged areas."
Lucy S Trinity University
"Definitely worthwhile. Language ability increased greatly"
A student Middlebury College
"I learned a lot about Australian history and culture. The program focused on environmental action and was very personal and encouraging. Unfortunately, being an environmental studies major, I didn't feel like I was learning a lot of new information. The independent research project was challenging and empowering. "
Carina H Trinity University
"Learned more than I could possibly imagine about renewable energy and have been able to apply many of the program's course components to my life. I've also been able to appreciate the beauty of nature on a higher level than ever before."
Sarah L Brandeis University
"I learned a lot. In terms of academics, I learned a lot about Argentine history and improved my spanish greatly (although not from class so much as from interacting with local people). I feel as though I became a lot more independent and brave in terms of pushing myself and not being afraid to take risks and learn from my mist..."

"I learned how to relax and value what is actually important in life. Chileans have a way of investing their time in things that are actually important, like food and family. I had the opportunity to make many close and wonderful chilean friends and to travel with them and visit their homes and families after the program, and fr..."

"Definitely worthwhile. So special to have the opportunity to live and explore and begin to understand a culture that is so different yet beginning to resemble my own. I learned so much about Vietnam's history and culture, as well as a ton about modern society from host family and friends. I gained a personal relationship with th..."

"My study abroad experience provided me with a cultural, language, and academic experience I had never had before. I grew so much as both a student and as a person, gaining so many things that I have brought home with me. "
