Study Abroad with The School for Field Studies / SFS
"I am alot more willing to try new things and be adventurous than I thought I could ever be. It was worthwhile because I got to learn about subjects in the actual environment where they happened."
A student Providence College
"I learned so much from this experience! This program was very academically oriented and I felt like I learned so much more with all the hands on experience! The locals were always fun to be around and being next to the ocean and all the marine wildlife was spectacular! I would do it again in a heartbeat! "
A student Austin College
"We learned a lot of academic information, but the most important thing that I learned is how different everything is in Bhutan, while people are at least just as happy. It put American life in perspective, and made me wonder what happiness actually is. I also enjoyed learning about the Buddhist culture of Bhutan, and how that af..."
Esther M Brandeis University
"I got to live in a tropical rainforest, which was an amazing and singular experience that I will never forget. I also formed great friendships with other American students from all over the US. "
Mackenzie A K Wellesley College
"It is not possible to list all that i gained and learned from my experience abroad. Not only did I learn factual information about my host country, the Caribbean and my field of study, but I also learned practical knowledge about how to be a scientist, write different types of reports, analyze and present data, and teach. Addit..."
A student Fairfield University
"I changed my career path, I learned to appreciate the outdoors more, I gained valuable friends and an increase in confidence. It was more than worthwhile, it was better than great, it helped shape who I am today."
Allie B University of Wisconsin - Madison
"I gained a much more wholistic knowledge of ecology because it was a place that was in no way similar to where I have studied before. It was 100% worthwhile!"
A student Denison University
"I learned a lot about Wildlife Management which was the academic topic of the semester. I also think that I learned a lot about myself by stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something completely different. The people there have a much different perspective on life and it was great to be able to see the world through their..."
Kristina B Brandeis University
"I learned just how independent I am and that stripping down to the basics is the most wonderful way to live. It was arguable the most worthwhile thing I've ever done."
Dana B Temple University
"Most definitely. I believe that by the end of the program we were all wishing that it could have been twice as long. We managed to get so much in that short period of time. There is nothing better than waking up to a symphony of birds, of walking from your cabin and seeing a family of pademelons (little forest kangaroos), and ha..."
Olivia P F Wellesley College
"I learned about how to navigate a foreign place, how to meet new people, how to live in the rainforest, how to carry out an independent research project, how to write a scientific paper, and how to immerse myself in the culture and lifestyle. Everything was worthwhile."
A student Wellesley College
"It was incredibly worthwhile. I have my complaints, of course, but I think the program's flaws are just part of it's nature. My biggest thing is that there is literally no unstructured time. Definitely travel after. Then you get the best of both worlds."
A student Purdue University
"I gained a lot of experience about different research techniques, as well as a lot of strategies to live more simply. It was definitely worthwhile and I would love to go back! "
Kat M University of San Diego
"I feel like in the first month alone I learned so much and I also think that this a good experience for a person to really decided whether they are passionate about Marine science or not. You get to learn more about yourself as well as other people. "
Daria B University of Maine at Orono
"absolutely!"
Devin G Davidson College
"Extremely worthwhile. I learned exactly what I hoped to, met amazing people, made wonderful friends, saw the country I've always wanted to see. "
Haley M Washington State University - Pullman campus
"It was probably the most worthwhile thing I've ever done. I met wonderful people and made some amazing friends and I know I will keep in touch with them forever. I learned a lot of relevant, applicable information and skills that I have taken home with me and help me daily. "
Haley M Washington State University - Pullman campus
"Cultural understanding, going outside of my comfort zone, passion for human wildlife conflict resolution and environmental conflict resolution"
A student University of Vermont
"It was completely worth while, I loved every minute of the trip. I learned not only class material but things about myself and the people of Tanzania."
Kathrine M University of Tennessee - Knoxville
"This trip has taught me to be more patient and to take things in stride. It is not worth it to get upset over the little things in life. "
Ashley K University of Maine at Orono
"This program was absolutely worthwhile. It solidified my academic interests and has gotten me excited about the possibilities of working internationally after college. I learned so much about myself and now have an incredible appreciation for Bhutanese culture, Buddhism, and the Himalayas in general. The lessons I learned, the t..."
Greg Z Boston University
"I gained a lot from this experience. I decided to study abroad in order to experience something that I'd never experienced before, and it definitely fulfilled the goal. Not only was I out of my comfort zone academically (it had literally nothing to do with my major), but socially as well. Therefore, I was able to engage in learn..."
A student Wellesley College
