University Information
The Office of Study Abroad supports Brandeis students who participate on any of our 300 approved programs in some 65 different countries around the world.
On average 40% of the junior class studied abroad during the academic year while still more students took advantage of various international opportunities in the summer. There is a huge diversity of transformative experiences that Brandeis students have engaged in abroad including studying biodiversity conservation hands on in Panama, conducting ethnographic research on sacred figures in Mongolia, interning with Parliament in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and interning in special education classrooms in Sydney, Australia to name a few.
Whatever your story, journey or adventure is destined to be, come by our office to learn more about the steps to going away!
Additionally, by logging in to Abroad101, all approved programs will be tagged with an "Approved" badge.

"I can't begin to explain all that I've learned from this program. It's much more than a language summer program. It was honestly life changing, because I knew I wouldn't return to America the same person. I have made such amazing friends with such great ambitions! I have learned how to handle adversity, motivate myself to be my ..."

"My experience in Brussels was definitely worthwhile. I'd say the most important thing I took away was the connections and friendships I forged with the local students. I tried hard to not always hang out with people from my program but make as many European friends as possible."
A student Brandeis University
"Definitely worth it. I learned a language, and I learned about a culture through that language. "
A student Brandeis University
"i learned how to enjoy exploring on my own sometimes as not everyone is interested in what you want to do. i learned that sometimes you have to put your needs before others and do what will make you happy and enjoy your experience. "

"-Embarrassment is a key motivator to learning a new language -It won't be easy to live in Tokyo for a gaijin, so you shouldn't slack off -You meet the most interesting people in unexpected places"
Katherine Z Brandeis University
"This experience was incredibly worthwhile. I gained the internship experience of working in the House of Lords and also just the experience of studying in London - and perhaps most importantly from my perspective, the personal growth to be able to do things on my own, such as travel, study, and other experiences."
A student Brandeis University
"Gained a greater sense of independence, definitely worthwhile"

"I learned how to adapt to new cultures, I learned how to accept different systems of education and growing up and how to work with them, I learned how I fit into the world as a American world citizen, and I learned how to make and keep friendships that I like to think will last even across an ocean!"

"I learned a lot of Spanish. It was a good experience."

"I learned what I have to sacrifice to get what I want. As a student abroad, it was my decision that brought me there and only my effort could make it a good experience -- who in Japan was really going to take responsibility for my happiness? (no one). So I learned a lot about being humble, speaking up, creating plans, being proa..."

"We learned a lot of academic information, but the most important thing that I learned is how different everything is in Bhutan, while people are at least just as happy. It put American life in perspective, and made me wonder what happiness actually is. I also enjoyed learning about the Buddhist culture of Bhutan, and how that af..."

"I feel like a learned a lot about Chinese culture, and different kinds of Chinese people, which was something I had less exposure to on my homestay program in HS. I also became more independent, and felt like I grew as a person from both good and bad experiences. "

"Going abroad was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Going to Perugia was also one of the best decisions I have ever made. Rather than go to a large tourist city, I recommend smaller cities like Perugia for a more authentic Italian feel, for more opportunities to practice your Italian, and for less congested streets. ..."

A student Brandeis University
"It was, without a doubt, worthwhile. I loved London. I loved the feel of the city, and the culture, the small, winding streets. Everything about the city was perfect. I gained more of a global perspective on what a city can be like. I also learned a lot more on how to be alone. I didn't make a ton of friends, and spent a lot of ..."
