University Information
The Office of Study Abroad supports Brandeis students who participate on any of our 300 approved programs in some 65 different countries around the world.
On average 40% of the junior class studied abroad during the academic year while still more students took advantage of various international opportunities in the summer. There is a huge diversity of transformative experiences that Brandeis students have engaged in abroad including studying biodiversity conservation hands on in Panama, conducting ethnographic research on sacred figures in Mongolia, interning with Parliament in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and interning in special education classrooms in Sydney, Australia to name a few.
Whatever your story, journey or adventure is destined to be, come by our office to learn more about the steps to going away!
Additionally, by logging in to Abroad101, all approved programs will be tagged with an "Approved" badge.

"I learned how to be truly independent. Going off to college is one thing, but when you really are away without access to the USA, and have to juggle things like money, new classes, unfamiliar teaching styles, and meeting a completely new group of people, it can be very difficult to adjust. For me, the best days were ones during ..."

"Wow, this is such a large question! It was absolutely worthwhile. I think one of the most important things I gained I was independence. I thought of myself already as an independent person before, however traveling by myself really taught me a lot about my own personality and who I am as a person. It also showed me how similar a..."

"It was definitely worthwhile. I got to travel a ton and meet great people, but I also learned that this probably wasn't the best program for me. "

"This experience was definitely worthwhile and I recommend studying abroad to all students while in college. Not only did I gain an appreciation and love for another culture, I was exposed to different teaching and learning methods as well as subject perspectives, that I can use in my later studies."

"Gained a greater appreciation of space and silence. Better understanding of the socioeconomic problems affecting the poor. Learned I could take a lot more stress than I thought I could."

"Although I still have one month left, I learned that I could adapt to a different lifestyle in a hustling and bustling in a culture worlds away from Brandeis University, and that I could push myself to meet new interesting people (both Argentine and international) and try new experiences whether it was painting a rural school in..."

"I learned to be more independent, to speak up when something is not right, and to respect people who devote their lives to a craft, a religion, a way of life."

A student Brandeis University
"I gained a broader aspect of the world. It was certainly worthwhile, as I had the opportunity to travel within Austria as well as to bordering countries, and learn about the various cultures. I also made a lot of new friends!"
A student Brandeis University
"The experience was an eye opener for so many aspects of my life. I ended up questioning a lot of the things I saw and also a lot of things that I did. Moving outside of the American bubble into a country that is unlike it in so many ways is like an out of body experience. "
A student Brandeis University
"Studying abroad is a real eye-opener. Learning to live by yourself in a country where English is not spoken a lot forces you to develop your Spanish speaking skills. On top of this, learning about the Spanish culture and being a worldly individual makes you more perceptive to learning about new cultures when you travel to other ..."

"I enjoyed being abroad but, for whatever reason, did not really grow to love Seville. I definitely gained skills about being independent and self-sufficient, which are incredibly valuable. My spoken Spanish definitely improved a bit and I augmented my Spanish vocabulary. I did not really enjoy my classes at the university due..."

"I learned that I do not want to work in the public health sector, but instead want to focus more on neuroscience. While in hindsight I would not have gone on this program because I would've liked to focus more on neuroscience research, this experience allowed me to learn more about myself and my future career path."
A student Brandeis University
"I learned a lot academically and was able to travel in Europe. It was more expensive than I would've liked, but it was worthwhile."
