Adelante: Edinburgh - Ecological Conservation Summer Program in Scotland

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a lot of field experience form bird ringing, to electric fishing, to measuring peat bogs. The experience is worthwhile and a great time.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The field experience outweighs in class time, and was a wonderful experience.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Very fun and kind people to be around

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Living arrangements are comfortable. We were assigned to our own rooms which was nice when you wanted privacy.

* Food:

Carbs. Lots of carbs, but overall the food was pretty good.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I was able to find out where my ancestors were from in Scotland. The culture here is unique and beautiful. The accents are amazing.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I had no issues with my health while on the trip. (besides maybe a hangover form the pub)

* Safety:

The campus is safe, and the people are very patient if asking for directions.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It would be easy to live on a student budget, however, I like food, and I like souvenirs. I would say bring a little extra money, you're in Scotland for Christ sakes, splurge.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $250-300 on average
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Don't get wrapped up in all of the trinkets on the royal mile when you first visit Edinburgh. You have time to find the best deals
