Overall Experience
I gained cultural knowledge and engagement, I increased my language skills and my confidence to speak in academic settings and discuss difficult issues. I also improved my study habits, especially for remote learning. - Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey View Entire Review

Advanced my Chinese communication skills immensely. - Macalester College View Entire Review
Definitely worthwhile! I learned a lot of self-reliance and bravery, living in a place where I can't read the signs (as I don't study traditional characters) and my accent is difficult to understand. - Bennington College View Entire Review

About

The Taiwan Intensive Summer and Semester Language Programs (TISLP) enables dedicated students of Mandarin Chinese to make substantial language gains over the course of summer and semester programming. The program is run at three different sites in the summer: National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan, Taiwan; Tamkang University (TKU) in Taipei, Taiwan; and National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Semester programs are held at National Tsing Hua University in Taipei. As a welcoming, accessible, and convenient society rich in diverse cultures, natural scenery, delicious cuisine, and ancient traditions, Taiwan is an ideal place for students of Mandarin to rapidly strengthen their language skills and cultural understanding. TISLP combines twenty hours of weekly small group and one-on-one language instruction with regular cultural workshops, excursions, interactions with language partners, a weekend homestay, and housing with local student roommates to create a truly immersive learning environment.
