CET Japan offers a unique opportunity for students eager to immerse themselves fully in the local language, culture, and people. Tailor your experience by choosing how much Japanese you want to learn. You can also add electives that fit your interests—try studio arts or direct-enroll at our local host university! Group excursions take you off the tourist map, like a day trip to Toei Kyoto Studio Park or an overnight trip to Tokushima. Japanese language learners of all levels and majors are welcome to attend the fall and spring programs. The summer program has a full-time language pledge and is open to students with at least 2 previous semesters of Japanese language.

Highlights

  • Flexible Japanese language curriculum (choose 6 credits or 12 credits—you'll cover the entire textbook in one semester if you choose 12 credits!)  

  • Unique studio art elective opportunities like Manga Creation or Character Design  

  • Direct-enroll electives in Japanese or English 

  • Enjoy the privacy of a single room in apartments shared with CET peers and local roommates  

  • No language prerequisite for the fall and spring (Summer pre-req: at least 2 semesters of previous Japanese language study)

CET Academic Programs Scholarships

CET awards $400,000 in scholarship awards each year and supports the Fund for Education Abroad to lessen financial need as a barrier to study abroad. Most CET scholarship decisions are based on financial need, and scholarship awards are intended to encourage study abroad by helping to alleviate financial burden.

Guidelines/Requirements:
When you apply to a CET program, you receive access to the CET Scholarship applications. Apply for as many CET Scholarships as you like! Each application include short answer questions and one essay whose prompt matches the spirit of the award. Scholarships that consider financial need also ask for current financial aid information.
